Parent Liaison

Our Hayfield Parent Liaison, Florence Newsome, serves as a link between our families and our schools. She facilitates family-school communication, which empowers families to become more active partners in their children’s education.

Ms. Newsome works in our school and community to help families get the information and assistance they need to support their children at home and to ensure their academic success. Ms. Newsome represents a variety of cultures, languages, and races and is one component in our school’s effort to enhance family involvement.

Examples of services:

  • Welcome new parents to the school
  • Assist parents with completing school forms
  • Explain school goals, policies, procedures, and programs
  • Provide information about school and community resources and services
  • Encourage and arrange opportunities for open communication between parents and school staff
  • Encourage parent involvement and leadership in the school
  • Arrange for language interpreters for school meetings

Information for Military Families Relocating to Fairfax County

US Army Child Youth & School Services School Age Center offers on post care year round, before/after, during holiday/summer breaks, and homework lab Mondays-Fridays 0600-1800.  Military benefits are awarded to provide care at significantly reduced rate.  There is also a Youth Center with a free Open Recreation program for Middle School/Teens, homework lab, and Hired!, an on post DoD apprenticeship program.  The Youth Center is open Mondays-Saturdays.  All must register annually with US Army Child Youth & School Services Parent Central Services to access any/all programs. Child Care Aware of America is a resource and referral agency. There is a program which each branch of service contributing subsidies for their families needing child care options off installation and off school site. Please refer to the site regarding their enrollment and your specific benefits

Department of Defense has paid for your Sittercity membership to help you meet your family's care needs. Find local sitters and nannies in your neighborhood. Military families can activate their fully paid membership at
